Legal Director - Renewable Energy

As Legal Director, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the company’s strategic direction and supporting its rapid growth. You will work closely with the board and executive leadership, serving as the trusted legal expert and advisor on all matters. Key Responsibilities

1. Strategic Legal Leadership:

○ Serve as the primary legal advisor to the board and executive leadership, providing sound counsel on legal, regulatory, and strategic matters.
○ Contribute to high-level decision-making, aligning legal strategies with the company’s business objectives.

2. Hands-On Legal Expertise:

○ Draft, review, and negotiate critical contracts, including Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs), project development agreements, procurement contracts, land leases, and financing documents.
○ Oversee all legal aspects of project development, construction, and operations in renewable energy.

3. Project Financing and Compliance:

○ Lead the legal elements of project financing, including negotiating with lenders and managing due diligence processes.
○ Ensure compliance with all applicable regulatory and environmental requirements, staying ahead of industry changes.

4. Risk Management and Mitigation:

○ Proactively identify and manage legal risks associated with business operations and projects.
○ Develop and implement risk mitigation strategies to support the company’s growth objectives.

5. Stakeholder Engagement:

○ Work directly with the board and senior stakeholders, ensuring seamless communication and alignment on legal matters.
○ Act as the company’s legal representative in negotiations, regulatory discussions, and industry forums.

6. Foundation for Future Growth:

○ Lay the groundwork for building an in-house legal function, with the potential to recruit and develop a legal team as the company scales.
○ Establish best practices and processes to support efficient legal operations in a rapidly growing environment.

Qualifications:

Education & Licensure:
○ Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
○ Admission to the bar in at least one U.S. state.

Experience:
○ A minimum of 10 years of legal experience, including substantial work in renewable energy, project development, project finance, and M&A.
○ Demonstrated ability to operate as an individual contributor in a high-growth environment, with hands-on expertise in drafting and negotiating complex contracts.
